What exchange staking product pages actually disclose, and the gaps worth noticing
Staking and earn product pages on exchanges include disclosures about lock-ups, reward sources, and custody. This guide shows how to read them critically and what questions they often leave unanswered.
Multiple exchanges | the reader's region | the reader's funding currency | fees, access and account safety
Exchange staking products are presented as simple: choose an asset, pick a term, watch rewards appear. Behind each product, however, are disclosures that explain where rewards come from, how long funds are locked, what happens if you redeem early, and who holds the assets. Binance, OKX, Bybit, and Bitget each publish such information, sometimes on the product page and sometimes in separate terms. Reading them takes a few minutes and tells you far more about the product than the headline rate does.
Where rewards come from
Look for a statement explaining the source of rewards. On-chain staking rewards come from the network's protocol for validating transactions. Other earn products may generate returns through lending or other activities, which carry different risks. If a product page does not say clearly where returns originate, treat that as a gap and check the full terms. Understanding the source helps you judge what could cause rewards to change or stop.
Lock-ups, redemption, and unbonding
Disclosures should describe whether funds are locked for a fixed term, how early redemption works, and whether network unbonding periods apply. Some networks impose waiting times before staked assets can be withdrawn, which the exchange cannot shorten. Note these periods before subscribing, especially if you might need the funds at short notice.
Custody and segregation statements
Read what the exchange says about holding staked assets: whether they remain in your account, are delegated to validators the exchange operates, or are moved into pooled arrangements. Statements about how customer assets are treated, and links to proof of reserves reports, are relevant here. These disclosures do not remove custodial risk, but they show how the exchange describes its arrangements.
Questions to ask when something is missing
If details are unclear, look for help centre articles and full product terms. Note the date you read them, since products change. If you still cannot find answers on reward sources, lock-up rules, or custody, consider whether you are comfortable subscribing. A product that is hard to understand is harder to exit calmly when conditions change.
Risk boundary: Crypto Staking Guide
Digital assets are volatile and derivatives can amplify losses. This website has no login, wallet connection, deposit form or customer-support chat. A referral link only records attribution; it does not guarantee access, pricing, rewards, approval or investment results. Availability can differ by residence, legal entity and product, so no regional access is assumed from language or branding alone.
Scenario checkpoint
- Find the statement that explains where staking or earn rewards actually come from.
- Note lock-up terms, early redemption rules, and network unbonding periods.
- Read how the exchange describes custody of staked assets and related reserve reports.
- Record the date you read product terms because staking products change over time.
